Forgotten

We believe that the “get to know the local life” – phrase through typical excursion programs has become a bit worn out. Can a traveler through such forms of travel truly get to know the local society and interesting individuals? How genuine is the actual life that takes place before the eyes of tourists? How to understand the whole in a whole bunch of information that just “must” be said? What is more important, to say and show everything or to comprehend and experience? Judge for yourself.

TOUR DESCRIPTION

This trip is entirely different from all other trips on the market. Although it includes some of the central localities in the destination, its priority is not to see everything, but authenticity, spiritual adventure. In this “mother of all tours”, we are your guides, hosts and drivers, but you are the one leading the storyline with our little help. For an authentic experience, you only need to deviate a little from the well-trodden paths; therefore, we begin in a very unusual place, in the neglected part of the ancient Salona, where antiquity meets the postmodern industrial socialism of the twentieth century. Continuing our research, we tour the Roman theatre with the remains of temples and walk to late antiquity where we analyze the arrival of Christianity and other cults and religions. After the ancient Salona, our adventure continues on the nearby slopes of the mountain Kozjak. Walking through nature and enjoying the panoramic views, we explore abandoned sites where the so-called rural aristocracy lived through the early Middle Ages. Pausing for a picnic and wine & olive oil tasting at one of the sites, we will learn about local gastronomy and agriculture, explaining the complex socio-political and geopolitical relations in this area. Going down to the shore, we have the opportunity to participate in a memorable experience, to engage in volunteer activity through socializing with the elderly in the creative living room of the local volunteer association. Surprisingly, social isolation is a rising problem in the 21st century, especially among the elderly population. With your participation, we will all have the opportunity to share rich life experiences and thus directly contribute to people not to feel abandoned by the community. After a break for a holiday in your hotel, we will summarize the story in the stone beauty – the city of Split – by taking a leisurely walk along the timeline, but this time in one of the world’s most attractive historical urban units. From the Golden Gate of Diocletian’s Palace, then the waterfront, through the market, the silver and iron gates, reading the architecture, we will analyze its life and meet the people who made this city possible: from the Roman Emperor Diocletian, through the Sephardic Jew Daniel Rodriguez, to French Marshal Auguste Marmont. We will also visit some authentic places hidden from the eyes of mass tourism.
